Ellen is currently employed part-time by Easter Seals RI and serves the birth-3 population providing early intervention services. Ellen retired in June 2011 from the South Kingstown School Department after a 30 year career as a school-based SLP. Ellen has been a member of the affiliate medical staff at South County Hospital since the late 90’s. She has been a RISHA board member since 2000 serving as Past President, Vice President, Schools Committee Chairperson and Co-Chairperson. Tom Landry is currently working as a school-based SLP in the Woonsocket School Department. Tom also works in the private practice setting. Tom is responsible for tracking bills that may impact the field of communication disorders. He works closely with ASHA to alert members of issues that impact our patients and/or services. Tom

Programs Chairperson (Appointed Open Position)

The Program Committee Chair works with two other active members, including the C.E. Administrator. The Program Committee Chair is responsible for establishing a calendar of at least two educational activities in accordance with the direction of the Association and The Executive Board. These activities include the annual conference and two CEU activities for the calendar year. The Program Committee Chair is also responsible for the agenda of the Annual Meeting.

Paige is a URI graduate (’15) currently working as a Speech- Language Pathologist at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island. She primarily works on the Acute Rehabilitation Unit with the adult and geriatric population. Paige also works in the pediatric outpatient setting as a clinician at the Notre Dame Ambulatory Center. Dora is a retired school-based SLP who worked in the RI Public Schools for 28 years. She retired from the West Warwick School Department and currently works as the RISHA Office Manager. Sheryl C. Amaral, MBA MS CCC-SLP is a speech-language pathologist for the Cumberland School Department. She currently serves on the American Speech-Language & Hearing Association’s (ASHA) Board of Ethics. Ms. Amaral is a past-president of RISHA. Since 2005 she has served on numerous Committees and boards for ASHA. Ms. Amaral recently completed her term on the Editorial Board for SIG 13 Swallowing & Swallowing Disorders. In 2010 & 2011 Ms. Amaral served as National Topic Chair for Swallowing & Swallowing Disorders for the ASHA Convention. Ms. Amaral co-authored the ASHA Professional Performance Review Instrument (PPRP). Ms. Amaral participated in the ASHA Salary Supplement Project as a “focused initiative state” during her service with RISHA. Ms. Amaral is a co-author of “Addressing feeding disorders in children on the autism spectrum in school- based settings: Physiological and behavioral issues”; Language Speech & Hearing Services in the Schools; (April, 2008). ASHA STAR (State Advocate for Reimbursement- Appointed)

The STAR Network advocates for improved healthcare coverage and reasonable reimbursement. The SEAL, STAR and SMAC meet at ASHA each year and communicate via email during the remainder of the year. The representatives report to the board to share information and assist with member concerns.
